Aggies Struggle on Diamond, Triumph in WR Room

Wildcard WR Bets Big on Bethel-Roman’s Breakout

The Texas A&M Aggies lost top wideout KC Concepcion to the NFL after his first-round selection by Cleveland, leaving a gaping hole for the 2026 offense. Enter redshirt sophomore Ashton Bethel-Roman, who hauled in 24 catches for 503 yards and five touchdowns in 2025, averaging 21 yards per catch as a downfield threat. With Mario Craver and transfer Isaiah Horton locked into starting spots, Bethel-Roman shapes up as the prime candidate to fill the third receiver role. Coach Mike Elko praised his progress over spring practice, pointing to improved route running and a “really, really strong offseason” as signs he’s ready for a bigger workload.

Finally, a deep threat who isn’t named “please pray for our passing game.” Bethel-Roman’s 21 yards per reception sound suspiciously like the number of times Aggie fans will be checking their watches between every throw. One can’t help but picture the coaching staff playing Mad Libs with “deep threat,” “strong offseason,” and “SEC rigor,” as if the three latest buzzwords will magically produce fourth-quarter comebacks. Yet if Ashton can avoid turning into an extra point holder halfway through the season, perhaps this wildcard will actually unlock some aerial fireworks—just in time to remind everyone that football in College Station isn’t a three-yard dive and a prayer.

Aggies’ Baseball Ranking Takes a Dive After Auburn Drubbing

Inclement weather foiled Friday’s opener, but Texas A&M still dropped two games to Auburn on Saturday, losing 18-5 and 5-4—its first run-rule defeat since Feb. 28 at UCLA. The Aggies salvaged Sunday with a 4-3 win, escaping a sweep but finishing the weekend outscored 26-13. The stumble snapped A&M’s five-series win streak and pushed them down two spots to No. 9 in the D1 Baseball rankings, trailing Coastal Carolina and Oregon State. UCLA, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech hold the top three. Other SEC squads pepper the top 25, but A&M will need to rally quickly to stay in the Men’s College World Series conversation.

Weather blamed, performance deflected—welcome to the Aggie baseball version of Murphy’s Law. Rumor has it the grounds crew considered installing a giant umbrella over Blue Bell Park, but the brainstorm ended when someone realized that might actually work. Meanwhile, the scoreboard read like a homeschool arithmetic test gone wrong: 18-5, because why stop at a normal blowout? And just to keep hopes alive, the Aggies popped off a 4-3 win on Sunday, like a kid who aces an exit exam right before summer break. Now they’re left clawing for relevancy in the polls—because nothing says “contender” like a #9 ranking after a home-series taste of SEC horror.
