In a stunning display of solidarity, Penn State coach James Franklin held an impromptu group hug with fans who had gathered outside the locker room clutching half-eaten pretzels and angry foam fingers. “I totally get it,” Franklin declared, offering tissues to anyone still smearing nacho cheese tears on their shirts. “Our offense looked less like a high-powered machine and more like a Butterfinger factory mishap.”

Eyewitnesses report Franklin pacing back and forth as though trying to remember what an actual touchdown looks like. He comforted fans by admitting he, too, had Googled “What is an effective play?” during the game’s final minutes. He assured the crowd that his next practice plan would include an exciting new drill: “Running Toward the End Zone, Not Away From It.”

When asked whether the team might consider adding more weapons on offense, Franklin nodded solemnly and promised to look into the radical concept of “maybe handing the ball to a player who can catch it.” He then encouraged dissatisfied supporters to direct complaints to a specially created hotline: 1-800-OFFENSE. Rumor has it that callers will be greeted by an AI simulating a convincing “ooh, our bad” apology and offered a coupon for free popcorn at the campus concession stands.

Despite the heartbreak of yet another overtime heartbreak, Franklin ended on an optimistic note: “I promise we’ll figure this out… eventually. Or at least by next season. Probably.”
