In a move that surprised literally everyone except their own coaching staff, the Oregon Ducks emerged from their bye week preparations long enough to remind the country that, yes, they still control their own playoff destiny. Fresh off a scalp-the-Penn-State-Lions celebration that looked suspiciously like a raucous high school homecoming, the Ducks checked the computer rankings, blinked twice, and concluded they’re not .0001 percent eliminated after all.
Armed with a shiny new win over Penn State and enough optimism to fuel a small country, Oregon currently boasts playoff odds that would make even mid-tier Big Ten teams gasp in envy. They’ve climbed into the “you’re probably in” territory—just a hair behind Ohio State’s eternal swagger and comfortably ahead of that Wisconsin squad that peaked at “bowl eligible” back in September.
Head coach Dan Lanning has reportedly scheduled team yoga sessions, meditation retreats, and several rounds of “everybody high-five the binder that tracks our playoff chances” before the Ducks reconvene to chase down the semifinals. If nothing else, Oregon fans will spend the bye week fervently refreshing bracketology sites, clutching foam fingers, and hoping those calculators never spit out “game over.”
