Hot Springs Hogs Unleash Basketball Armory
The Arkansas Razorbacks treated a 4,000-strong crowd at Bank OZK Arena to a full-roster, 40-minute scrimmage that showcased their size, athleticism, and depth. After greeting fans with autographs, John Calipari sent his 15-man squad through two highly competitive 20-minute halves. The Red team edged the White, 44-37, in the first session, led by freshman guards Meleek Thomas (12 points) and Darius Acuff Jr. (10). In the second half, Karter Knox and DJ Wagner switched sides but couldn’t stop the Red’s late rally, finishing 46-41. Across both halves, Knox piled up 19 points and seven rebounds, while transfer Nick Pringle posted a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double. Other highlights included Ewin’s 19-point, 12-rebound night, Brazile’s 15 points and nine boards, and three-point barrages from Thomas. Calipari praised his veterans’ improvements and the freshmen’s potential as Arkansas gears up for exhibition games against Cincinnati and Memphis before Nov. 3’s opener with Southern.
In a shockingly predictable turn, the Razorbacks proved that more bodies on the court actually lead to more bodies in the basket. Fans, once accustomed to seeing Calipari juggle a skeleton crew, now witness the horror of having too many options—an all-you-can-score buffet of three-pointers, putback dunks, and pick-and-roll maneuvers. It’s as if Coach Calipari raided a basketball-themed Costco and left with every ingredient for a championship soup. Expect plenty of guffaws when opposing coaches realize the Hogs’ secret weapon is … actually having players. Tune in for the upcoming exhibitions to see if Arkansas can teach the basketball world that depth isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a full roster doing poster dunks on your soul.
