Injury Apocalypse Hits Notre Dame Before USC Showdown

Injury Apocalypse Hits Notre Dame Before USC Showdown - painting of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football venue

Irish Scramble After Injury-Free Policy Fails

Notre Dame enters the weekend showdown with USC saddled by an expanding injury report. Center Ashton Craig is done for the season after his NC State injury, while run-stopping defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio will miss the Trojans game, further depleting the interior defense. Special teams ace Loghan Thomas also sits with a concussion. With USC averaging over 6 yards per carry, the Irish face a familiar coach in Marcus Freeman, who famously guided an ailing squad to last season’s title game despite similar setbacks.

Only at Notre Dame could “injury buffet” be mistaken for a late-season strategy. Our fearless coach Marcus Freeman, clearly trained in the ancient art of “Band-Aidology,” now has to cobble together a defense that looks more like a high school pick-up team than a playoff contender. If only their Playoff dreams were as well secured as their injured players’ spot on the sidelines. Notre Dame’s medical staff must have an all-you-can-eat tissue buffet by now—too bad that won’t stop USC from steamrolling through the line like it’s a tailgate buffet on wheels.
