Rival Return: Ex-Gamecock Jumps Ship to Clemson

Clemson’s 2027 class got a major boost when Griffin McKain, a 6-foot-3 dual-threat outfielder/first baseman and left-handed pitcher, ditched his South Carolina pledge and signed on with the Tigers. McKain, fresh from an official Clemson visit, earned a 9.5 Perfect Game grade, stormed the USA National Team Development Program, and ranked among North Carolina’s top outfielders and left-handed pitchers. At Legion Collegiate Academy he posted a .320 average as a freshman, then improved to a .421 average while stealing 12 bases as a sophomore, all while fanning 36 hitters in 29.2 innings. Ahead of his junior year he transferred to Charlotte Catholic, adding to Clemson’s already loaded class alongside five other signees.

In a move that likely involved secret Clemson dance parties and late-night sweet tea ceremonies, McKain packed his glove and sprinted across campus faster than he steals bases. Rumor has it Coach Bakich offered him a lifetime supply of Tiger-striped socks and tickets to every home game—and he almost said no once, just to test their resolve. Now that McKain’s aboard, Clemson’s 2027 roster looks like a baseball-themed Avengers lineup. As for South Carolina, they’re left to wonder if a mysterious fog machine and pop-up Clemson billboards lured him away. Either way, Tiger fans can’t wait to see Griffin field their hopes and dreams—just don’t ask him which side he’s playing for next season.

Homegrown Speedster Michael Martin II on His Third Clemson Pilgrimage

Rising South Carolina junior Michael Martin II, a top-2028 running back from Christ Church Episcopal, made his third trip to Clemson this season, strengthening bonds with position coaches C.J. Spiller and Andrew Zow. Despite a recent Tigers loss, Martin praises Clemson’s development focus, citing constant contact—twice-weekly check-ins about family and game film—and loyalty as key factors. Already boasting over 1,000 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in eight games, Martin credits off-season strength gains—from 164 to 185 pounds—to dedicated training and his father’s calorie-boosting recipes. With offers from Syracuse, Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Duke, Tennessee, NC State, Rhode Island and App State, his ultimate goal remains leading Christ Church Episcopal to a state championship on Dec. 5.

It appears Martin’s secret recruitment strategy involves sending Clemson highlight reels via smoke signals and interpretive dance. Twice a week he FaceTimes Coach Spiller to discuss his mother’s barbecue sauce and the philosophical meaning of yardage. Clemson, unable to resist such heartfelt devotion, is reportedly drafting a sonnet for Martin’s recruitment file. Meanwhile, rival schools are busy forming a search party for similar clones of “loyal kid and fullback combo.” If nothing else, Martin’s off-season weight-gain plan proves the ancient wisdom: when life gives you protein shakes, make prime-time highlights. Stay tuned—if Martin gains any more weight, Clemson might offer him his own workout video series.
