Holiday Hoop Duel: Tar Heels vs. Eagles
Courtney Banghart’s North Carolina women’s basketball team will close out 2025 with an ACC clash at Boston College on Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. The Tar Heels, who own an 18-5 all-time edge over the Eagles, have posted an average of 77 points per game and ride a two-game win streak. In conference play, UNC went 15-5 vs. BC, including a dominant 77-46 victory in 2012 and a nail-biter 84-83 win in 2011. Boston College finished 16-18 (6-12 ACC) last season under Joanna Bernabei-McNamee, boasting three dual-digit scorers—T’Yana Todd, Dontavia Waggoner and Teya Sidberry—before falling in the WBI. UNC’s next ACC matchup after BC is Louisville on Dec. 14.
Brace yourselves: nothing says “holiday spirit” like traveling to frigid Chestnut Hill for a women’s hoops holiday special. The Tar Heels, fresh off decorating opponents with festive blowouts and tight squeakers, will test Boston College’s festive cheer. Expect Banghart to break out some secret gift-wrapped plays, while the Eagles scramble to remember where they left their three-point shooters. And if the game goes down to the wire, both teams might just call it quits early and join the New Year’s party—masquerading as actual basketball. Ho ho hope you like insanity!
