Beamer’s Bold Pre-Game Pep Talk
South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer met with reporters Tuesday to preview Saturday’s clash with Ole Miss. He lauded Lane Kiffin’s success at Mississippi, lamented his own team’s late-game slip-ups this season—even though they’d held fourth-quarter leads over Alabama and Missouri—and praised his young receivers’ steady improvement. The Gamecocks will kick off at 7:00 pm ET on ESPN in another prime-time test in Oxford.
Isn’t it charming when a coach politely thanks his opponent for making the season easier? Shane Beamer’s press conference had all the grace of a debutante curtsy: “Thank you, Lane, for elevating your program so we can brag about our near-comeback.” Meanwhile, Beamer’s team has mastered the art of letting winning positions slip away like free samples at a buffet. And let’s give a round of sarcastic applause for the freshman receivers, who apparently learn how to catch passes even when their coach can’t catch a break! Tune in Saturday, folks—Oxford’s about to host the University of Dramatic Fourth-Quarter Collapse.
