Inside South Carolina’s Bid for a Third Elite 2026 Class

With early signing day looming on December 3, Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks currently sit at No. 21 nationally after assembling two top-20 recruiting classes in the last three years. Their 2026 haul of 15 commits features one five-star (EDGE Zach Elee is still locked to Maryland but drawing interest), eight four-stars (including OL Darius Gray, QB Landon Duckworth, CB J’Zavien Currence, and DL Aiden Harris), and six three-stars. This group includes four top-100 prospects and spans every position from quarterback to defensive back. Beamer’s staff must hold their pledges, flip any high-profile targets like Elee, and maybe dip into the transfer portal in January to punch back into the top 20. Between projecting Duckworth into a possibly open QB room, Gray stepping in on a struggling O-line, and defensive depth poised to shuffle, the Gamecocks hope to cap off another impressive recruiting cycle in the SEC.

If you thought college football coaches didn’t moonlight as magicians, think again. Beamer’s staff is pulling rabbits out of hats—rabbits with 220 pounds of muscle and a five-star aura—while convincing prospects that South Carolina is the new Alabama (if Alabama also had occasional pizza giveaways). The real magic trick? Selling the idea that a defense allowing 30 points per game is suddenly “all aboard the Shut-Out Express” once these shiny recruits arrive. Meanwhile, loyal fans will refresh the commitment board every 30 seconds, as if the Internet can sense wavering minds and force extra pledges. If this circus of flip attempts, portal pillaging, and hyperbolic hype doesn’t earn them a third top-20 class, well, at least they’ll have perfected the art of recruiting theater.
