Badgers’ Football Follies: QB Crisis and Rivalry Doldrums

Badgers’ Football Follies: QB Crisis and Rivalry Doldrums - painting of Wisconsin Badgers football venue

Hoosiers Eye Upset as Badgers’ Dominance Wanes

For decades, Wisconsin controlled its rivalry with Indiana, winning 10 straight meetings from 2005 to 2017 and compiling a 16–4 edge since 1993. Recent encounters tell a different story: a 14–6 loss in 2020 and a 20–14 setback in 2023, undone by late fumbles despite 243 passing yards and two touchdowns from Braedyn Locke. Now the No. 2 Hoosiers threaten to extend their two-game run and cement a new dynamic. Fresh off an unexpected victory over Washington, Luke Fickell’s squad must resist Indiana’s surge or risk seeing a once-automatic win slip away.

Meanwhile, Badger fans are sharpening their witticism for the inevitable postgame panic: “Does anyone have the number for a pity party rentals?” Some are already drafting break-up statements with their season tickets. After all, nothing says “midwestern malaise” like being outcoached by a team you used to beat by 40. Buckle up: this clash could make a retirement home look rowdy.

Badgers’ QB Room Digs to New Depths

ESPN analyst Bill Connelly’s latest rankings sink Wisconsin’s quarterback situation to 67th out of 68 Power Five programs. Once pegged at 62nd in October, the Badgers cycled through Danny O’Neil, Hunter Simmons and true freshman Carter Smith, none of whom amounted to much before Smith’s 3-of-12 debut and a season-high 13 rushes became the best Wisconsin passing performance. Punter Sean West even led the upset win over Washington in passing yards. With injuries mounting and no starter named for Indiana, Wisconsin’s aerial attack has failed to produce a 100-yard passer in four consecutive games.

As our coaches scramble like contestants on a football-themed episode of “Nailed It,” one can’t help but admire the creativity of trotting out your punter for a trick play that somehow fools…actually, no one. If this keeps up, we’ll be drafting the waterboy at halftime and wondering why he still looks surprised. At least it’s entertaining chaos—sort of like watching a slow-motion train wreck starring elves on ice skates.
