Highlight Reel Incoming: Karvala Joins the Hoosiers

Indiana University has secured a major addition to its 2026 basketball recruiting class by inking four-star forward Vaughn Karvala. Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 190 pounds, Karvala brings a potent blend of size, skill and athleticism—a combination coach Darian DeVries insists is “a highlight reel waiting to happen.” After three years at Oregon High School (Wis.) and a senior season at top-10 Bella Vista Prep (Ariz.), Karvala averaged 26.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game last season, shooting 53.5% from the floor and 41.9% from deep. He’s rated among ESPN’s top 30 recruits nationally and comes off a standout EYBL campaign with Team HERRO.

Finally, the Hoosiers have found a player whose highlight-reel potential rivals my fantasy of turning every full-floor dunk into a TikTok moment. Sure, the guy shoots lights-out from deep and racks up points like it’s popcorn night, but can he truly survive the Indiana winter? Does he have a cold-weather handle? Will his pregame playlist include five hours of John Mellencamp and at least one insistence on playing “Back Home Again in Indiana”? Strap in, Bloomington—if Karvala lives up to even half the hype, opposing teams will need sponsors for their ice packs.
