Return of Auburn’s Championship Conductor
Kodi Burns, who quarterbacked and caught passes en route to Auburn’s 2011 SEC title and BCS National Championship, is set to rejoin the Tigers under new head coach Alex Golesh. After coaching stops at Arkansas State, Samford, Middle Tennessee, Arizona State, Tennessee and the New Orleans Saints—where he mentored PFWA All-Rookie Chris Olave—Burns most recently served as USF’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. Having worked with Golesh in Knoxville, Burns is expected to follow him back to Auburn, bolstering a staff in transition and putting a familiar face on the Plains for the 2026 season.
Fans rejoice as Auburn apparently discovered the secret coaching formula: hire the guy who already won one. College football insiders speculate that Burns’s return will unleash an unstoppable tide of nostalgia, turning the sidelines into a throwback highlight reel. Expect promotional campaigns to feature cheers of “Bring back the guy who brought back the trophy!” Merchandising opportunities are boundless, with tailgaters already planning “Burns or Bust” T-shirts, foam fingers, and commemorative lawn flamingos. Meanwhile, contrarian analysts warn that calling up former glory might only remind everyone of how the program bottomed out between championships. But Auburn boosters, ever-optimistic, have already booked out the campus bookstore, convinced that Burns’s presence alone will resurrect the undefeated seasons of 2011—because nothing says “new era” like repeating the old one.
