From Greenwood to Columbia: Safety Triston Lewis Joins the Flock

Triston Lewis, a 6-foot-3.5, 200-pound three-star safety from Greenwood High School, signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks during the Early National Signing Day period. Rated the 678th best player nationally and top 15 in the state, Lewis is a versatile multi-sport athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and baseball—throwing 90 MPH from the mound. Projected as a safety at the collegiate level, he adds depth to an already defense-heavy 2026 recruiting class under defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, helping sit the Gamecocks at 21st in 247Sports’ Team Recruiting Rankings.

Get your helmets and popcorn ready—South Carolina’s defense just got a Swiss Army knife in shoulder pads. Lewis can tackle, intercept, and apparently strike out batters with the same arm. Rumor has it Torrian Gray is already drafting defensive playbooks that involve baseball signals and basketball screens. Forget single-discipline stars: we want our safeties to hit fastballs and nail three-pointers before lunch. At this rate, the Gamecocks’ next game will look more like a multi-sport decathlon than football. We might even see Lewis out there juggling basketballs mid-tackle. The SEC may never recover from this athletic overload.
