Sideline to Star: Clemson Alum Rules JSU Secondary
Caleb Nix, a former Clemson walk-on safety who saw just 22 snaps in three seasons, has exploded onto the scene at Jacksonville State. After graduating early and transferring as a graduate student, he now leads the nation in interception return yardage (191 yards) and ranks second in Conference USA with four interceptions. Nix has also piled up 56 tackles and three fumble recoveries, earning Conference USA Player of the Week honors twice while helping the Gamecocks nearly upset Kennesaw State in the conference championship.
In a stunning display of coaching insight, Clemson apparently believed that Nix’s talent was best reserved for sideline intros and locker-room handshakes. Meanwhile, JSU is out here turning him into a walking billboard for “what if?” It only took a change of jersey to transform a once-invisible safety into the nation’s premier pickpocket on the field. Maybe next time Clemson can loan out its talent evaluation team to the local middle school—just to see if they can spot a defensive star before JSU does.
Wilson’s Wild Ride: West Virginia’s Gatorade Star
Tayveon Wilson, a three-star Clemson signee, was named the 2025 West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year after starring at Huntington High. The 6-foot-3 recruit excelled as a quarterback (1,400 passing yards, 17 TDs), rusher (750 yards, 10 TDs), wide receiver and safety, also contributing on special teams with punting and returns. Clemson plans to convert his versatile skill set into a tight end role, banking on his athleticism and football IQ to develop under a program known for molding position-flexible players.
Behold the ultimate “jack of all trades” specimen: a guy so busy doing everyone else’s job that his high school coach wondered if he’d ever take a break. Now Clemson’s turning him into a tight end—because apparently the world needs more athletes who can do literally anything except maybe finish their homework on time. But hey, if your résumé includes quarterback, wide receiver, safety, punter and part-time magician, you’re basically the Swiss Army knife every Power Five program dreams of hoarding.
