Pettiford’s Sizzling Performance Snuffed by Wildcat Inferno
Arizona scorched Auburn 97-68 at McKale Center despite Tahaad Pettiford’s career-high 30 points. The Wildcats shot 61.2% overall and dominated the paint 60-24, fueling decisive 12-0, 15-0 and 18-2 runs. Auburn opened with a 9-0 spurt but went cold at the worst possible times, managing just 33.3% shooting and seven assists. Five Arizona players reached double figures, while Auburn struggled through lengthy scoring droughts. The Tigers (7-3) now pause for finals before facing Chattanooga in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event.
In a display of “we have a rim and we’ll dunk on you,” Arizona politely informed Auburn that 97-68 is the optimal way to spend a Saturday night. Pettiford lit the scoreboard on fire, only to watch Arizona hose him down with paint points and sharp passes. Auburn’s defense apparently thought turnovers were the theme of the evening, handing Arizona extra possessions like Oprah giving away cars. At least the Tigers get a break for final exams—time to learn why defense might actually matter.
