Meme Wars: Huskers Tackle New Hampshire with Viral Gags

Over recent seasons, Nebraska basketball fans have weaponized memes in postgame trolling, uniting as the Nebrasketball Meme Army. Following the Creighton upset in December 2022, they flood opponents’ social media with jokes. The Meme of the Game committee awards top memes based on humor, originality, relevance and a PG-13 touch. After Nebraska’s 86-55 rout of New Hampshire—sealed by a two-point halftime lead and a second-half shutdown—the NMAMG winners include “Live Free or Die,” “Breakdancing Berke,” “The Decemberists,” “You just lost to Uggy,” and “Mildcats.”

In a stunning display of online athleticism, Redshirt fans have taken harassing rival schools to … call it “performance art.” Who needs locker room speeches when you can send a bottom-text meme straight to the soul? Nebraska’s Meme Army has clearly found the fountain of youth for trolling: knee-slapping graphic puns, strategically placed references, and a strict “No AI” policy that ensures authenticity (and guarantees every pixel is sweat-stained). Next, these meme commanders will probably petition the NCAA to score technical fouls for poorly captioned images. College basketball competition is so 20th century—today, if you can’t dunk on your opponent’s absurd Photoshop skills, is it even a win?

Hawkeyes’ Second-Half Blitz Leaves Huskers Out of Breath

After a stellar 12-win start and historic scoring, Nebraska’s women’s basketball stumbled this week, falling first to USC then to No. 14 Iowa, 86-76, in Iowa City. The Cornhuskers surged early (10-0 lead), fueled by Britt Prince’s 27 points and nine-point rally, but Iowa’s defensive adjustments and free-throw efficiency (23-of-28) turned the tide. The Hawkeyes outscored Nebraska after halftime, capitalizing on 11 second-half turnovers and a decisive 10-0 run in the fourth. Iowa improved to 12-2 (3-0 Big Ten), while Nebraska is now 12-2 (1-2). Next up: a home rematch vs. Purdue on Jan. 4.

In perhaps the most shocking revelation since discovering that water is wet, Iowa decided to, well, play basketball in the second half. Meanwhile, Nebraska apparently auditioned for a new sport called “turnover manipulation,” coughing up more possessions than a distracted juggler. Britt Prince’s heroics in the first half—27 points, a sprinkle of rebounds—were rendered moot once Iowa discovered that free throws count and halftime adjustments are a thing. As the Cornhuskers soak in defeat, one can only wonder if the team’s next pregame ritual will include reading chapters from “Defensive Strategies for Dummies.” Or maybe just a gentle reminder that 28 free throws are better than 15. But hey, at least they still look good in those uniforms.
