Gamecocks’ Roster Revolt: Portal Exits and New Commitments

Gamecocks’ Roster Revolt: Portal Exits and New Commitments - painting of South Carolina Gamecocks football venue

Gamecocks Land ’27 DB Sensation Aamaury Fountain

Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks have secured their second commitment of the 2027 class with cornerback Aamaury Fountain. The 6-foot-1, 171-pound prospect from Warner Robins, Georgia, holds a three-star rating and ranked 39th in the state. Fountain chose Carolina over offers from BYU, Alabama, Auburn, Duke, and Florida, adding depth to a secondary in need of reinforcement after recent departures.

Move over national signing day drama, here comes the Fountain of youth—literally! Forget five-star hyped recruits who vanish after freshman year; South Carolina just landed a Georgia corner who can actually pronounce “Gamecocks.” With opposing quarterbacks already trembling in their cleats, fans can’t wait to watch Aamaury redefine the phrase “sacked at the line of scrimmage.”

Wall Collapses: LT Josiah Thompson Jumps Ship

Josiah Thompson, the Gamecocks’ stalwart starting left tackle for the past two seasons, has entered the transfer portal, per On3 Sports. Thompson was a four-star recruit and Mr. Football in South Carolina, earning Freshman All-SEC honors and Freshman All-America recognition in 2024. His departure marks the eighth offensive lineman to leave Columbia’s roster, leaving major gaps for Shane Beamer and new O-line coach Randy Clements to fill.

Nothing says “we love you” quite like a mass exodus on the offensive line. It’s like a reverse recruitment day where everyone waves goodbye. Who needs protection anyway? Rumor has it the offensive line is auditioning mannequins next week. On the bright side, South Carolina’s quarterbacks are now eligible for adrenaline-fueled career paths as escaping spelunkers.

Gamecocks Host Portal Prospects Party

With significant roster needs, South Carolina is welcoming seven transfer portal visitors to Columbia. Among them are LSU’s DJ Chester and Iowa State’s Brendan Black on the offensive line, Oklahoma State’s versatile center/guard Austin Kawecki, Florida product Jayden Gibson at receiver, kicker Upton Bellanfant, nose tackle Horace Lockett from UCF, and Bowling Green tight end Jacob Harris. Each official visit could address critical holes on offense, defense, and special teams ahead of the next season.

If recruiting were a college party, the Gamecocks just sent out the chicest invites: “Bring your resume—and your helmet!” Expect catered steak dinners in the weight room and pillow-fights on the practice field. Who wouldn’t want to transfer to a place where the largest weightlifting machine doubles as a free-for-all tackle dummy? RSVP now and don’t forget your autograph book.
