From Bulldogs to Hilltopper: Metcalf’s Next Step
Georgia defensive backs analyst David Metcalf is set to leave Athens for Western Kentucky, where he’ll take over safeties coaching duties. Metcalf spent several seasons in Georgia’s program, working alongside high-profile figures like Donte Williams, Will Muschamp and Travaris Robinson. As Kirby Smart wraps up his tenth season, the staff has enjoyed unusual continuity, but Metcalf’s move underscores the natural coaching carousel as assistants climb the ranks.
In a twist so predictable it might as well be scripted by Hollywood, Georgia’s coaching carousel spins again. David Metcalf, the mastermind behind unexplained defensive coverages and post-game snack distributions, is packing his bags for Western Kentucky. Clearly, Metcalf decided that replacing cupcake-flavored Gatorade with biscuit gravy was the career move he needed. Meanwhile, Kirby Smart’s steady staff retention record stands strong—until someone decides they desperately need new stadium tours and fresh coffee machines. Stay tuned for the next installment of “Who Wants to Be a Positional Coach?” featuring surprise relocations and free pens.
Bulldogs Eye Trojan Beast Devan Thompkins
Georgia’s defensive line search zeroes in on USC transfer portal standout Devan Thompkins, ranked the No. 2 defensive lineman available. The Bulldogs join a competitive field—Alabama, Clemson, Auburn and Ohio State—all vying for his disruptive talents at the line of scrimmage. With roster turnover looming from the NFL Draft and portal exits, adding a proven pass-rusher like Thompkins could preserve Georgia’s trench-domination legacy.
Oh look, Georgia wants another under-the-radar Trojan who already has a national spotlight. Because nothing says “unstoppable defense” like absorbing someone else’s highlights and calling it your own. While Kirby Smart’s staff texts frantic prayers to the portal gods, Dawg fans hold popcorn ready for the recruitment soap opera. Rest assured, if Thompkins joins, we’ll all act surprised—even though the entire internet already circled his name three weeks ago. Will he sign? Stay tuned for the next episode of “Transfer Tracker: Bulldogs Edition.”
