Huskers’ Mass Migration: Mapping the Transfer Trail
Twenty Nebraska football players dipped their toes into the transfer portal this offseason. Only three were established starters; the rest ranged from special teams aces to redshirt candidates still searching for their next roster spot. Quarterbacks Dylan Raiola and Marcos Davila found new homes at Oregon and Abilene Christian, respectively, while defensive playmakers like Malcolm Hartzog headed to Arizona and Preston Okafor joined Fresno State. Linebackers and linemen dispersed across the Big Ten, Mountain West and beyond—Michigan State, Michigan, Miami, Tulsa, Wyoming and more. Some, like Willis McGahee IV and Dylan Parrott, reversed course and withdrew their names; others, including Jamarion Parker and Brice Turner, remain portal-bound, weighing their options. Each Husker’s path underscores the program’s roster churn and hints at future matchups when old teammates face off.
It’s the college football version of musical chairs, only with more shoulder pads and fewer rules about elbowing your buddy out of the seat. Nebraska, apparently a halfway decent talent factory, spilled two dozen players into the portal like it was Black Friday at a clearance store. Quarterbacks are swapping campuses as if they’re trading Pokémon cards—“I’ll give you Raiola for your Davila, plus a packet of ramen.” Defensive backs are scattering across the map faster than frat boys ditching class, and linemen have formed a union of wandering beefcakes. Meanwhile, some Huskers withdrew—perhaps realizing the pasture isn’t greener on the other side, or maybe the portal Wi-Fi was terrible. Either way, Coach Rhule’s previous recruits look primed to pepper Lincoln’s future schedule with familiar faces. Just don’t expect any transfer reunions to come with free gas money.
