Gridiron Showdown: Sooners Take Mobile by Storm
Three Oklahoma standouts—defensive tackle Gracen Halton, linebacker Owen Heinecke and running back Jaydn Ott—displayed their talents at the 2026 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Heinecke logged four assisted tackles after a breakout 2025 season, Ott broke free for a touchdown and 42 rushing yards despite an uneven year for the Sooners, and Halton recovered a fumble (only to fumble it back) while leading the National squad. Each player hopes their Senior Bowl efforts will boost their standing in the upcoming NFL Draft, with Halton currently the highest ranked Sooner at No.115 on PFF’s Big Board.
In a plot twist only rivaled by football’s own replay review, Heinecke’s journey from Ohio State lacrosse to OU linebacker has fans wondering if the NCAA will next offer transfer waivers for professional gamers. Ott’s touchdown came so fast you’d think he was auditioning for the Olympic sprints, or at least a cameo in a NASCAR highlight reel. And Halton’s fumble-recovery-fumble sequence? A masterclass in “Two-Step Ball Control.” Who knew the Senior Bowl would introduce a new dance craze: the Turnover Tango?
Speed Surge: Sooners Outfield Gets Fresh Legs
Oklahoma softball coach Patty Gasso has locked in her outfield trio for 2026, returning Kasidi Pickering and Abby Dayton while adding freshman Kai Minor from OC Batbusters. Known for her blazing 98% stolen-base success and Jayda Coleman–style range, Minor joins corner veterans who combined for stellar offensive and defensive seasons. Pickering hit .392 with 18 homers, Dayton delivered clutch postseason heroics, and both promise to keep the Sooners’ outfield one of the nation’s fastest and most reliable.
Move over Avengers, there’s a new speed squad in town. With Kai Minor’s stolen-base record looking like a cheat code in real life, she’ll have opponents gasping for air faster than you can say “ground rule double.” Meanwhile, Pickering and Dayton are auditioning for the outfield version of “Fast & Furious”—complete with homers instead of horsepower. Will Gasso need to install seatbelts in center field? Probably not, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she hands out pit crew-style glove checks at every game.
