Sharpshooting Showdown: Wilkerson’s 3-Point Takeover

Despite a beat-down at Purdue, Lamar Wilkerson lit up the stat sheet by draining 55 triples in Big Ten play—one more than Steve Alford’s 1987 mark. He’s also on the cusp of surpassing Alford’s single-season 3-point total (107) and climbing the all-time scoring leaderboard for both single-season and Big Ten games. With 231 attempts and a 38.1% clip, he’s right on track to rewrite Indiana’s record book before the postseason.

In a move surely approved by 1980s time travelers, Wilkerson has spent the season treating nets like piñatas. One can almost hear Steve Alford muttering “I was here first!” as Wilkerson’s three-ball parade marches on. If he hits 107 triples, expect a campus shrine where freshmen must sacrifice free throws to the Sharpshooting God. And if Indiana fans weren’t already chanting his name, they’ll soon be pledging loyalty to the new three-point messiah—or at least buying commemorative nets online.

Monshun’s March: A Five-Star Tour of Power

Nation’s top wideout Monshun Sales plans official visits to Indiana (April 24), Alabama (May 29), Ohio State (June 12) and Miami (June 19). The 6′5″, 195-pound Lawrence North star logged almost 800 yards and nine TDs as a junior, and he’s Indiana’s highest-rated recruit target ever, perched at .9969 on the 247Sports Composite. He also moonlights as a track star in the 100m, 200m and long jump.

Forget the Little 500 bike races—this spring, Bloomington is hosting the Monshun 500. Fans have reportedly camped out at the recruiting office, armed with tailgate grills and “We Built This Campus” T-shirts. Rumor has it Sales will decide based on which school offers the best dining hall chicken tenders and emoji-filled welcome texts. If IU lands him, expect pep rallies to culminate in letterman jacket parades down Kirkwood Avenue.

Bubble Alert: Previewing Hoosiers vs. Wildcats

Indiana (17-10, 8-8 Big Ten) hosts Northwestern (11-16, 3-13) on FS1 in a must-win that could make or break its NCAA bubble hopes. The Big Ten’s third-leading scorer, Nick Martinelli, paces the Wildcats, who have beaten Indiana five straight times. Indiana’s home record is sterling (13-2), but recent blowouts by Illinois and Purdue have fans nervous. Tip-off is Feb. 24 at Assembly Hall.

Nothing says “March hangs in the balance” like a midweek FS1 telecast with a slim crowd wearing lookalike “Bubble or Bust” sweaters. Expect coaches to hug their clipboard as if it’s a life raft, and fans to Google “selection committee lobbyists” between free throw attempts. If Indiana wins, Assembly Hall might transform into a mobile bracket factory; if they lose, bubble-gum consumption may spike in the student section.

Cursed Courtship: Hoosiers’ Northwestern Hex

Indiana’s five-game skid against Northwestern is on the line Feb. 24. Dating back to 2022, losses include suspended lineups, 17-point leads squandered, buzzer-beaters, controversial calls and three-point barrages. The Hoosiers trail the all-time series only 119-58 but have drawn a historical blank since 2021–22, seeking a breakthrough to soothe a frustrated fan base and bolster NCAA hopes.

Legend says Assembly Hall sits atop a buried Wildcat talisman, awakening every time Indiana warms up. To break the curse, coach DeVries may summon ancient rituals—s’mores by the bench, net-burning ceremonies, or mass group selfies with the visiting team. IU’s next loss could prompt students to hole up in a chapel, praying for bracket salvation or at least a calm Marquette matchup.
