Indiana Hoosiers’ Heartbreak and Hopes in Columbus

Hoosiers’ Lead Blows Up at Ohio State

Indiana fell behind early when Ohio State ripped off a 22-8 run to close the first half, turning a one-point deficit into a 17-point hole. Despite a late second-half surge—hitting 65.2% from the floor after halftime—the hole proved too deep. Indiana’s porous defense surrendered 59.2% shooting and nearly 50% from three as Ohio State powered to a 91-78 win. Coach Darian DeVries lamented the critical seven-and-a-half-minute collapse that “exploded” the lead, leaving the Hoosiers on life support for an NCAA Tournament bid. With back-to-back late-season losses, Indiana now limps into the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 10 seed, clinging to one last chance at redemption.

Nothing says “we’re alive” like burying yourself in a 17-point grave before halftime. Apparently Indiana’s defensive game plan was to only defend when the clock read “second half.” The Hoosiers left so many open threes that Ohio State fans are applying for percentage points in their fantasy leagues. But hey, at least DeVries got a masterclass in how quickly your bubble pops when you forget defense entirely. Now it’s off to Chicago—where winters are harsh and moral victories don’t count for squat.

Hoosiers Gear Up for Big Ten Redemption Tour

After a rollercoaster regular season, Indiana enters the Big Ten Tournament desperate for wins. The Hoosiers squandered a five-of-six winning stretch, losing five of six to close the year and dumping their momentum in a 91-78 defeat at Ohio State. Darian DeVries calls the postseason “the next chapter,” urging his team to focus on each game as it comes. Indiana must win at least two games in Chicago—starting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT—to keep NCAA hopes alive. Seniors like Reed Bailey insist motivation is high, claiming a bad taste in their mouths will fuel a late-season run.

Motivation, meet desperation; desperation, meet motivation. Indiana’s new motto might as well be “Worry about tomorrow’s game… tomorrow.” It’s impressive to see a team so committed to a five-game losing streak they’ve turned it into seasonal climate change. But don’t worry—if they win in Chicago, the Hoosiers will prove that in college basketball, a dramatic collapse followed by two wins equals a guaranteed ticket to the Big Dance. At least that’s the dream.

Bubble Lifeline: Indiana Survives Despite Defeat

Despite an 18-point loss at Ohio State, Indiana’s NCAA Tournament hopes remain alive as every other bubble contender fell over the weekend. The Hoosiers’ resume stays afloat thanks to nine fellow bracket teams losing on the same day, leaving no one with a stronger case to leapfrog Indiana. Metrics like NET, KenPom and BPI held steady, and a Quad 1 victory over Wisconsin now shines brighter after the Badgers upset Purdue. Ranked the first team out, Indiana can still punch its ticket with two wins in the Big Ten Tournament, though mid-major bid stealers could complicate matters. Selection Sunday remains a nail-biter.

Nothing like collective incompetence to keep your tournament dreams from imploding. While Indiana managed to nail a Quad 1 win months ago, the Hoosiers have spent the rest of the season auditioning for “How Low Can You Go?” Yet thanks to a mass bubble train wreck, Indiana’s car is still on the tracks—barely. It’s heartening to know that mediocrity paired with other people’s misery is enough to survive. Now they just need to win twice against teams that have rebounded to full sanity. Good luck riding that bubble!
