Aggies Face Selection Hopes and Pitching Perils

Aggies Rally for Selection Sunday Watch Party

As Selection Sunday approaches, Texas A&M men’s basketball is hosting an open-air watch party at The Green at Century Square on March 15 starting at 3:30 p.m. The event will feature yard games, face painting, and team merchandise while fans await CBS’s 5 p.m. reveal of the NCAA Tournament bracket. With a 21-11 record and 11 SEC wins, A&M hopes to secure a favorable seed in one of eight first-round host cities—Oklahoma City, San Diego, Tampa, Buffalo, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Portland, or Greenville. A ticketed VIP pre-event in The George Ball Room will kick off the festivities, but the main gathering is free and open to all, rain or shine.

Because nothing screams “March Madness” like a grown adult fiercely debating bracket matchups while flinging bean bags at a wooden board, Texas A&M decided to combine yard games and face painting with bracket anxiety. Fans will have ample time to practice their victory dances before CBS robs them of that sweet moment of oblivion. Meanwhile, the VIP experience promises overpriced snacks and exclusive tears when the Aggies land a 10-seed. If all goes well, the only thing more bruised than the opposing team will be our collective hopes—carried in a Goodyear blimp over College Station.

Bullpen Blues: A&M Loses Reliever in Warm-Up Fiasco

During Game 1 of the Texas A&M–Oklahoma series, relief pitcher Josh Stewart grimaced mid-warmup and exited with an arm injury, jeopardizing his comeback after missing all of 2025. Stewart’s early 2026 performance had been stellar, but his appearance on the SEC injury report suggests more downtime ahead. Potential bullpen heroes include junior Clayton Freshcorn, who boasts a 0.67 ERA, three saves, and 13 strikeouts over 12.2 innings, and junior transfer Juan Vargas, who surrendered just one earned run in 10.1 innings before the Oklahoma game.

Welcome to Aggieland’s version of “Wheel of Misfortune,” where your next pitcher is only one warm-up toss away from starring in a medical drama. Josh Stewart’s arm decided it had better things to do than pitch, leaving Clayton Freshcorn and Juan Vargas to audition for “Bullpen Survivor.” Fans will clutch their merch and pray the bullpen doesn’t turn into a traveling sideshow. But hey, at least we’ll have new injury hashtags and a chance to turn every rehab assignment into a feel-good montage. Roll credits on this bullpen blockbuster.
