LSU Battles Bama for Top Tennessee Tight End

Oak Ridge (Tenn.) four-star tight end Malik Howard, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound playmaker, has secured an official visit to Baton Rouge for June 19–21. The No. 8 TE in the 2027 recruiting cycle hauled in 53 catches, 778 yards and 11 TDs last season, earning offers from LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Miami and Indiana. Scouts praise his sticky hands, acrobatic body control and post-catch burst. Lane Kiffin and new tight ends coach Joe Cox are pulling out the stops to lock down the modern F-TE projection who can threaten defenses on any snap.

In a twist straight out of a recruitment reality series, LSU’s tactic appears to be a combination of Mardi Gras beads, Cajun gumbo and surprisingly grueling blocking drills. Rumor has it Howard will be asked to demonstrate his “door-destroying” in-line chops by actually ripping a bayou swamp cypress off its roots—strictly for scouting purposes, of course. If he can survive the “Cajun culinary obstacle course” (a single serving of frog legs topped with habanero jelly), the Tigers believe they’ve found a multi-dimensional weapon who can juggle linebackers and etch his name in Baton Rouge folklore.

Rising EDGE Schiefer Charts Coast-to-Coast Visits

Grayson (Ga.) IMG Academy sophomore EDGE rusher Ismael Schiefer (6-3, 235) ranks among the nation’s Top-25 in the 2028 cycle. He’s received scholarship offers from LSU, Texas, Florida, Ole Miss, USC, Tennessee and Michigan. Schiefer’s spring itinerary includes official and unofficial stops at Georgia (twice), Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU (March 22), Florida (March 28), USC (April 4) and Texas (April 11). Meanwhile, LSU also hosts five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson this weekend as part of its Junior Day bonanza.

Clearly, Schiefer’s spread-sheet of visits rivals a major league road trip, complete with layovers in Baton Rouge’s finest gumbo houses. The Tigers hope to dazzle him not only with their defensive scheme but also by staging an impromptu second-line parade into the training complex—complete with brass band and bead-throwing coaches. If that doesn’t scream “commit here,” no linebacker blitz will. Meanwhile, Ahmad Hudson may be considering whether LSU can match Nebraska’s offer with a pair of beignets and a life-sized statue of Coach Kiffin wearing a zebra suit.

Tigers Aim to Pounce on Jacksonville in March Madness

LSU women’s basketball returns to host the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed facing 15-seed Jacksonville this Friday at 5 p.m. CT inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers, led by Coach Kim Mulkey, posted a 110-68 win over the Dolphins in December 2023 and seek Mulkey’s 150th LSU victory. LSU sits in the Sacramento 2 Regional alongside UCLA (1), Duke (3) and Minnesota (4). The program has a storied history: one national title, six Final Fours and a nation-leading 94.5 PPG this season.

When it comes to scoring, LSU’s offense resembles a runaway parade float—bright, loud and impossible to stop. Jacksonville may need a time machine to rewind points faster than LSU can rake them in. Rumor has it Mulkey has secretly hired a beehive cage to capture stray three-pointers on their way to the rim. And if the Tigers’ bench keeps pouring in nearly 40 points per night, fans might start bringing popcorn just to watch the scoreboard explode. Expect the Maravich Center to shake so much that local alligators will show up asking for tickets.

Powerhouse Schools Bid for Texas Tackle Brian Swanson

South Oak Cliff (Dallas) four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson (6-5, 315) has trimmed his list to eight schools: LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, SMU, Arizona State, Tennessee, Ohio State and Oklahoma. A Top-20 OT in the 2027 cycle, Swanson boasts offers from the Buckeyes, Longhorns, Sooners and Aggies. Texas hosts an official visit June 12, Oklahoma is locked in for Norman, and Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers are making a last push for the Dallas native amid a pivotal recruiting offseason.

At 315 pounds of pure, unadulterated prospect, Swanson might be cataloged as a “human roadblock” in scouting circles. Reports suggest Lane Kiffin plans to invite him to LSU’s weight-room version of Burning Man, where recruits must sculpt sculptures out of protein powder. Meanwhile, Oklahoma’s coaches reportedly stalk his Instagram to time their charm offensive. If Swanson picks LSU, he’ll earn the unofficial title of “Bayou Bengal Boulder,” complete with a commemorative inflatable blocking sled named after him.

Miguel Whitley’s Return Trip Ignites Recruit Race

New Orleans St. Augustine four-star wide receiver Miguel Whitley (6-0, 185) — the No. 2 pass-catcher in Louisiana and a Top-75 prospect in the 2027 cycle — returns for an unofficial LSU visit this weekend. Whitley has offers from LSU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas Tech and Nebraska, and is down to five finalists: LSU, Ole Miss, Houston, Ohio State and Tennessee. LSU also schedules an official visit June 19–21. Rivals notes LSU leads, but Whitley’s sought-after speed and hands keep contenders on their toes.

Welcome to the ultimate college football dating show, where seven coaches wine-and-dine one receiver on a whirlwind of weighted gauntlets and gumbo cook-offs. LSU’s secret weapon? A pep-rally flash mob in the weight room and a personalized Bayou-themed mixtape. Word is Miguel must prove his commitment by outrunning a gator in a 40-yard dash through the swamp—blindfolded. If LSU secures his signature, Baton Rouge plans to erect a statue depicting him catching a gold-plated football from a steel-toed alligator’s jaw.
