Gators Reload: Draft Buzz, Pro Day Hits & Key Return - painting of Florida Gators basketball, football venue

Veteran Guard Klavzar Commits to Run It Back

Junior guard Urban Klavžar announced he’s returning to the Florida Gators for the 2026-27 basketball season, joining Boogie Fland as a key backcourt piece. After boosting his minutes from spot duty to 20.7 per game, Klavžar shot a scorching 44.4/40.6/90.3—earning SEC Sixth Man of the Year honors—and averaged 9.6 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists. His sharpshooting helped Florida close the regular season on an 11-game win streak, and he delivered season highs against TCU and Kentucky. With three NBA-prospect teammates still undecided, Klavžar’s return shores up Florida’s perimeter firepower.

Florida fans rejoice! Nothing screams “We’re serious about winning” like holding your breath over NBA prospects before patting yourself on the back for a Sixth Man who’s graciously accepted your scholarship offer twice in a row. Klavžar’s decision to come back suggests he either loves Gainesville or just really hates the idea of rent in Europe. Either way, the Gators have now officially secured someone who can actually hit threes—crazy, right? Now let’s all collectively forget about those other three players dancing on the NBA stage and pretend this team isn’t one late-night transfer tweet away from collapse.

Pro Day Stars Shine: Gators Unveil Elite Workouts

Florida’s 2026 Pro Day drew 68 scouts and featured 14 Gators blowing through bench presses, vertical jumps and 40-yard dashes. Defensive back Devin Moore led the vertical at 35.5 inches, while edge rusher George Gumbs Jr. and center Jake Slaughter topped the bench press with 22 reps each. Michael Caraway Jr. clocked a 4.57-second dash, narrowly edging Moore’s 4.59. Long snapper Rocco Underwood and linemen Brien Taylor Jr. and Damieon George Jr. also participated selectively. Clips of J. Michael Sturdivant and Devin Moore rounded out the showcase, ahead of April’s draft in Pittsburgh.

Ah, Pro Day—where grown men hurl themselves at timers, dumbbells and the faint hope of a late-round pick. Who knew measuring a guy’s ability to bench-press his body weight five times and then sprint away from a stopwatch could translate into multi-million-dollar contracts? Meanwhile, poor Brien Taylor Jr. found out that hamstrings do, in fact, snap under pressure. Let’s raise a protein shake to Devin Moore’s vertical hops and Michael Caraway’s dashes—because nothing says “NFL caliber” like awkwardly filmed TikTok clips of guys chasing imaginary quarterbacks.

2026 Draftees Praise Sumrall’s Fiery Florida Revamp

Members of Florida’s 2026 draft class returned for Pro Day and got their first look at coach Jon Sumrall’s energetic regime. Defensive lineman Caleb Banks and edge rusher George Gumbs Jr. raved about Sumrall’s rowdy presence, high-intensity practices and newfound passion. Four-year cornerback Devin Moore called the coach’s blunt accountability “needed,” while kicker Trey Smack and center Jake Slaughter celebrated the intensity. Quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. also caught the eye of wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant, who believes Jones can lead the reinvigorated Gators. After a 4–8 season, former players now buzz about a brighter future under Sumrall’s fiery leadership.

Welcome to Gainesville, where the grass is green and coaches scream louder than the marching band. It turns out that what Florida needed was a less polite, more hair-on-fire leader—because apparently, yelling is the secret spice missing from a 4–8 diet. Former Gators are already fawning over Sumrall’s every grunt, proving once again that elite football talent can be measured by how enthusiastically they get chewed out. Who needs X’s and O’s when you’ve got an X-rated motivational speaker on the sidelines? Pass the popcorn and let the rowdy whistle-blowing commence!
