Hokies Unleashed: Softball Sluggers & Baseball Brawls

Hokies Unleashed: Softball Sluggers & Baseball Brawls - painting of Virginia Tech Hokies baseball, softball venue

Batting Bonanza: Hokies Obliterate Eagles

In a merciless display of offensive firepower, Virginia Tech’s softball squad pounded out 17 runs on 16 hits to steamroll Boston College in Game 3 of their ACC series. After grabbing an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Hokies erupted for a five-run second, punctuated by a three-run homer from Jordan Lynch and a solo blast by Zoe Yaeger. The onslaught continued in the fourth as Michelle Chatfield’s timely base hit added to the rout. Despite Boston College’s brief resistance—scoring three runs in the third—the outcome was never in doubt as Tech piled on six more in the fifth before mercifully calling it a day. Starter Emma Mazzarone set the tone, striking out two in the first, before the lineup took over and unleashed a relentless parade of hits, walks, doubles and home runs.

The Eagles flew to Blacksburg expecting a friendly visit; instead, they got a full-blown hostage situation. It’s clear Boston College came unprepared for Tech’s power arms and sour bats—not even the scoreboard was safe from collateral damage. One can almost hear the BC dugout Googling “How To Beat A Softball Team That Doesn’t Know When To Quit.” Meanwhile, Hokie fans probably set up lawn chairs and popcorn by the dugout, treating every inning like a fireworks show with questionable cleanup crews. If this is what ACC softball looks like, one might need a tetanus shot just from the verbal cuts.

Big-Bat Ballet: Hokies & Stanford in Tight Game 3

In a tense rubber match, Virginia Tech baseball battled Stanford in a seesaw affair through the first five innings. The Cardinal struck first with Teddy Tokheim’s opposite-field double, but the Hokies answered immediately with sacrifice flies and savvy baserunning. Stanford regained the lead in the second, only for VT to tie it up again after a bases-loaded walk. A two-out solo homer by Luke Lavin in the fourth proved decisive, giving Stanford a 3-2 advantage. On the mound, Griffin Stieg held the Cardinal bats in check with a quiet four-inning stint, while Stanford’s bullpen offered mixed results. Both teams exchanged zeroes thereafter, promising a classic late-game showdown.

Baseball aficionados rejoice—they’re finally getting their fix of suspense, drama and enough slow-motion action to rival a soap opera. Five innings in, we’ve seen more lead changes than a tap-dancing contest, and that Luke Lavin moonshot? Pure opera… if the opera actors were armed with aluminum. Meanwhile, Tech’s ace looked like he’d rather be at Starbucks than dueling Yankee wannabes on the mound. We eagerly await the next chapters of this slugfest, because nothing says “edge-of-your-seat” like tracking every groundout and pop-up with the intensity of a bomb squad.
