Can This High-Flying Wing Transform Indiana Hoops?

UNC Asheville transfer Kameron Taylor has IU’s attention after averaging a conference-leading 18.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game as a 6’7″ guard. Known for his above-the-rim finishes and efficiency inside the arc (52.9% on two-pointers, 70.1% from the free-throw line), Taylor enters the portal with a 247 Sports ranking of No. 115 overall. Though his deep shot fell at just 28.1%, his size and athleticism make him an enticing off-ball scorer. Defensively, his length and hops promise impact, even if his box-plus-minus dipped into negative territory. IU would slot him into a role that maximizes his rim pressure and allows his jumper to develop while holding him accountable on D.

Dreaming of a dunk-heavy recruitment pitch, IU coaches will probably install Taylor on a trampoline and sell season tickets to watch him fly. In true Onion fashion, expect campus rumors of Taylor replacing the basketball rims with launching pads. He’ll arrive at assembly halls demanding air traffic control be notified before each windmill. Meanwhile, defensive coaches will frantically try to teach him the concept of “standing still” on that end of the court—because apparently getting vertical doesn’t count unless you also learn to backpedal.

Is a 9-3 Hoosier Hangover Ahead?

With the defending national champions looking to repeat, Cover 3 Podcast host Tom Fornelli predicted a modest 9-3 finish for Indiana in 2026, falling short of the College Football Playoff. Indiana loses key pieces like QB Fernando Mendoza, WR Omar Cooper, LB Aiden Fisher, and others. The schedule features a brutal middle stretch against Ohio State, Nebraska, Michigan, USC, and Washington. Despite that, Curt Cignetti’s top-ranked recruiting haul and home dominance (15-0 under Cignetti) offer a counterpoint, leaving the program’s true ceiling shrouded in uncertainty as transfers and freshmen integrate.

Cue the national pundits in their flannel pajamas, patting themselves on the back for predicting mediocrity. They’ll wheel out a dusty chalkboard, draw a Venn diagram of “lost players” and “tough opponents,” and declare Indiana a “C-minus contender.” All while Cignetti sits back in his recliner, sipping orange soda, knowing that recruiting classes don’t read podcasts. The real sport here is watching analysts juggle roster turnover stats like circus clowns—until IU unleashes a portal surprise and leaves them cleaning popcorn off the tent floor.

Khobie Martin: The Next IU Rushing Powerhouse?

After IU’s undefeated 16-0 run powered by a balanced backfield, redshirt freshman Khobie Martin emerged late in 2025, averaging 6.47 yards on 505 yards and six touchdowns. With Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black now in the NFL and UAB transfer Lee Beebe healthy again, Martin secured his spot among a deep committee. Coach Curt Cignetti praised his pad level, consistency, and work ethic. Martin credits off-season strength training, nutrition tweaks, and leadership goals for elevating his game as IU prepares for spring practice and their April 23 showcase.

Somewhere, a motivational speaker is drafting Khobie Martin leadership posters—“Be the Juice.” Martin’s off-season plan likely involves chugging kale smoothies while captioning inspirational memes. Opponents will tremble at news of IU’s “committee backfield,” fearing they’ll be pounded by four different guys who each wear neon wristbands. Football strategy has officially entered the realm of mid-season infomercials: buy one running back, get three free, plus a side of motivational quotes. It’s football, not a buy-one-get-one-free sale, but hey, every Sunday market needs a deal.
