Sooners Surge: Defensive Gems and Offensive Transfers

Sooners Surge: Defensive Gems and Offensive Transfers - painting of Oklahoma Sooners football, softball venue

Sooners’ Golden Glove Clinic Silences Longhorn Offense

In a rain-interrupted showdown at Red & Charline McCombs Field, Oklahoma’s pitching ace Audrey Lowry blanked No. 4 Texas in Game 1 of the series. Thanks to gold-glove-level catches by Ailana Agbayani, Kai Minor and Ella Parker—who even gunned down a would-be run-scoring triple—OU secured a 3-0 victory. Parker’s early homer off Texas ace Teagan Kavan set the tone, while Isabela Emerling added a solo shot in the sixth. Despite two rain delays, Lowry finished with six hits allowed, zero runs, and a defense that made every play look routine.

Oh, you thought softball was just hitting? Think again. It’s really a covert audition for the Olympic dodgeball team, as OU outfielders spent the night launching leather missiles at unsuspecting runners. Seriously, who needs speed when you’ve got rocket arms? And let’s not forget the hero of the game, Audrey “The Silent Assassin” Lowry—she didn’t just pitch, she conducted a symphony of strikeouts in the rain. Move over, weather forecast; the only storms that matter are the pitching storms brewing in Norman.

Boganowski’s Next Leap: Sooners’ Safety Level Up

After logging only 68 defensive snaps as a true freshman, Michael Boganowski exploded onto the scene with 245 snaps in 2025, racking up 31 tackles, 2.5 TFLs and a sack. The Junction, KS, product earned an 83.2 PFF tackling grade—third best on OU’s defense—and improved his run-defense grade by over 13 points from the previous year. Now entering his junior season, Boganowski aims to cement his role as the free safety, mentoring underclassmen and partnering with senior Peyton Bowen to lock down the secondary.

Ladies and gentlemen, behold the baby-faced terror of Big 12 quarterbacks everywhere: Michael “Hitstick” Boganowski. He’s the only player who can tackle someone into next week while offering them a gentle pep talk. Rumor has it he’s developing a “calmness aura” so strong that opposing receivers faint upon sight. As he prepares to ascend to full-time free safety, we can’t help but wonder if the next step is quarterbacking OU’s special teleportation device down the sideline.

Avant Arrival: OU’s New Weapon Ready to Run Wild

Transfer tailback Lloyd Avant arrives at Oklahoma after a solid 2025 season at Colorado State, where he rushed for 417 yards, five TDs and caught 24 passes. With Sooners’ receiving back checkdowns totaling just 209 yards last year, Avant—or “Swiss Army knife” in cleats—offers instant versatility: inside runs, outside sweeps, pass catching and even kickoff returns. Competing against an injury-riddled depth chart, he’s already impressed coach Ben Arbuckle with his pro-level experience and durability.

Welcome to Norman, Lloyd Avant, where dreams come true—except when you step on the governor’s lawn. The kid’s so versatile he makes a Swiss Army knife look like a butter knife. Running backs got tired of catching checkdowns? Avant’s here to catch everything but flies at the state fair. And if he ever gets bored of football, rumor has it he can juggle bowling pins, fix your car and recite Shakespeare in the pocket. OU sure scored a multitool of gridiron greatness.
