From Longhorns to Gamecocks: Heide’s Next Stop
South Carolina head coach Lamont Paris has secured the commitment of Texas transfer forward Camden Heide, addressing several departures on the Gamecocks’ front line. Heide, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound swingman, arrives after stints at Purdue and Texas. During three seasons with Purdue (2022–2025), he played in 75 games, averaging 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds as a redshirt freshman, then boosting those numbers to 4.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 19.6 minutes in 36 games the next year. In his lone season at Texas, Heide posted 5.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, shooting 49.3 percent from the field, 45.4 percent from three, and 70.6 percent from the charity stripe. His size and sharpshooting will strengthen an offense seeking versatile scoring options, especially after his 12-point performance in an 84-75 Texas win over South Carolina last February.
It’s transfer-portal season again, folks—college basketball’s very own digital speed-dating app where programs swipe right on prospects faster than you can say “one-and-done.” The Gamecocks, having watched several forwards flee their roost, have parachuted in Heide—an itinerant marksman who’s now on his third collegiate tour. Will he finally settle in South Carolina? Or is he just stocking up loyalty points before the next offseason migration? In any case, buckle up: if this recruiting rollercoaster has taught us anything, it’s that rebuilding means relocating, reloading, and refining your highlight reel—preferably in a uniform that isn’t burnt orange.
