Gators Land Surprise TE Prospect to Boost 2027 Class
Princeton (N.J.) Hun School tight end Tommy Douglas, standing 6-4 and weighing 245 pounds, has pledged to the Florida Gators—his commitment arriving out of the blue without an in-person visit since his January offer. Rated as the No. 17 tight end nationally by 247Sports, Douglas chose Florida over Alabama, Penn State and Vanderbilt. He hauled in 33 catches for 640 yards and seven scores as a junior, per MaxPreps. Douglas becomes Florida’s seventh 2027 commit and the second at the tight end spot, joining Centerburg’s Jackson Ballinger. This latest pledge follows a whirlwind nine-day stretch that saw the Gators lock in five-star lineman Maxwell Hiller, four-star QB Davin Davidson, four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain and more. Currently No. 10 in the Rivals class rankings, Florida hopes to climb further by securing additional four-star prospects at receiver, edge and defensive line. Head coach Jon Sumrall lauded the school’s academic prestige, Gainesville weather and “authentic relationships” as key selling points in this recruiting rampage.
Florida fans, rejoice: a young man you’ve never seen in person has officially committed to giving you eight years of highlights—if he ever sues up. Coaches are already penciling in his name on the depth chart without so much as a campus coffee tour, proving that in the recruiting business, you only need one Zoom call and a complimentary T-shirt to flip a three-star into a Cinderella story. Meanwhile, Dad pulls double duty as an NFL executive, because nothing says “I picked this school for the culture” like familial synergy in the pros. As the Gators stack recruits faster than they can alphabetize their pledge boards, the unofficial chant around The Swamp is: “Quantity over quality, and quantity always wins!”
