Ducks Shake Up Transfer Portal with Fred Payne Splash

Ducks Shake Up Transfer Portal with Fred Payne Splash - painting of Oregon Ducks basketball venue

Oregon’s Backcourt Gets a Payneful Makeover

The Oregon Ducks have landed Boston College’s leading scorer, guard Fred Payne, marking their seventh addition via the transfer portal this offseason. Payne averaged 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game for the Eagles last season. His arrival lifts Oregon to No. 40 in the national portal rankings and seventh in the Big Ten, trailing Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA, Maryland, and USC. Alongside Payne, the Ducks secured guards Tyrone Riley IV (San Francisco), Jasper Johnson (Kentucky), and Jerry Easter II (USC), plus forwards Pharaoh Compton (San Diego State), Taylor Bol Bowen (Alabama), and Andrew Meadow (Boise State). After a disappointing 12-20 season, Oregon hopes this influx halts back-to-back losing records and fuels an NCAA Tournament return.

Welcome to the Ducks’ version of musical chairs, where every player has two jerseys and a bus ticket. Oregon coach Dana Altman must have discovered a portal in his backyard because the Ducks have recruited more transfers than a sci-fi convention. Fred Payne arrives looking like the savior of Eugene’s basketball hopes, or at least a slightly improved version of last year’s disaster. If seven new faces can’t fix a 12-20 record, maybe the NCAA expansion will include a “resurrection bracket” just for Oregon. Strap in, fans—these Ducks are coming to a dance floor near you, and they’ve got enough transfers to fill the playlist.
