Spanish Tower Joins Duke’s Hoops Empire

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer capped off his stellar 2026 recruiting class by securing a commitment from 7’0″, 230-pound Spanish big man Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje. Originally from Florida but honed at FC Barcelona, the 16-year-old prospect adds transition speed, passing chops, pick-and-pop shooting, and rim-finishing finesse to an already loaded frontcourt. With veteran scorers like Patrick Ngongba and Dame Sarr returning, plus portal standouts and a top-three national recruiting haul, Duke now boasts one of the deepest rosters in college basketball. Boumtje Boumtje’s upside and mandatory two-year stay lock in both immediate bench depth and long-term star potential, earning the signing an “A.”

Because nothing screams “balanced roster” like plucking towering teenagers from overseas and calling it genius. Sure, Duke already had enough talent to field a small army, but why stop there? The plan clearly is to have so many big men that someone can always hold the defense hostage while the rest of the team binge-watches recruit highlight reels. Who cares about classes, homesickness, or actual school? As long as those imports stay within NCAA age limits, we’ll keep stacking them like LEGO bricks until every starting lineup looks like a skyscraper convention.
