Huskers’ High-Stakes Softball Face-Off at Penn State
The No. 3 Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team travels to State College aiming to capture a share—or outright—of the Big Ten regular-season title for the first time since 2014. With a 20-1 conference record (40-6 overall), Nebraska must sweep three games at Penn State to secure the crown without relying on other results. UCLA (19-2) and Oregon (18-3) remain mathematical threats, but Nebraska’s 13-game winning streak, plus Big Ten Pitcher of the Week Jordy Frahm and SI Softball Player of the Week Hannah Camenzind, give the Huskers momentum. All games air on the Big Ten Network and the Husker Radio Network, Friday at 5 p.m. CDT, Saturday at 1:30 p.m., and Sunday at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, Penn State comes off a dominant sweep of Illinois, having set program records in runs, RBIs, and home runs under coach Clarisa Crowell. Still, with PSU’s staff ERA at 4.02 and Nebraska averaging over seven runs per game, the outlook favors the Cornhuskers to sweep and march into postseason play with a trophy in hand.
Nebraska’s squad has reportedly been drilling celebratory gatorade-dunk simulations between innings and practicing synchronized trophy lifts in the bullpen. Rumor has it, head coach Wanda “Cupcake” McGraw has replaced the pitching radar gun with a confetti cannon on first strike—pure motivation. At Penn State, Nittany Lions fans are stocking up on tissues and therapy vouchers, just in case the Huskers’ offense shows up wearing rocket boosters. The Big Ten Network is allegedly auditioning celebratory dance cams for the moment Nebraska clinches; producers are hoping to catch fans both crying tears of joy and stealing the trophy. Stay tuned: if Nebraska actually wins, we may be forced to endure a national holiday in Lincoln next Monday.
