Lions’ 2027 Class Shoots Into Top 5

Penn State landed 4-star defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery, moving their 2027 football recruiting class into the top five nationally. Montgomery, previously committed to Syracuse, is rated as a top-100 player and the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation by 247Sports. His commitment pushed Penn State to No. 5 in the 247Sports Composite and 14th in On3’s rankings. Coach Matt Campbell has now added four 4-star and nine 3-star prospects in just six weeks.

Hold onto your helmets, folks: Penn State just turned recruiting season into a high-speed roller coaster. One moment the class was unranked and the next it’s prancing into the top five like it owns Beaver Stadium. Apparently, Coach Campbell waved a magic recruiting wand, flipping commitments as easily as college students change pizza toppings. If only flipping pancakes were this efficient—those griddles could learn a thing or two from Happy Valley.

Campbell’s Post-Spring Must-Do List

After 15 spring practices, Penn State’s head coach Matt Campbell identified three key priorities before the fall football opener: getting injured players healthy, solidifying the defensive line, and naming a reliable backup quarterback. While stars like Rocco Becht and transfer Connor Barry flashed promise, injury rehabs and scheme installs remain critical. Campbell stressed discipline, cohesion, and preparation for adversity as central to the program’s next phase.

Ah, the age-old “storm is coming” pep talk, college football edition. Campbell’s blueprint for success apparently involves reassembling a dozen broken parts, teaching the D-line a new dance, and figuring out who’s allowed to throw the ball—again. Meanwhile, quarterbacks warm up by filling out pop quizzes on plays they forgot. If this is football or a remedial boot camp for high-powered athletes, nobody’s sure—but at least the storm sounds dramatic.

McKenna Takes His Game to Canada

Freshman hockey star Gavin McKenna, after a record-setting season at Penn State, will represent Canada at the IIHF World Championships ahead of likely going first overall in the 2026 NHL Draft. McKenna led Penn State with 51 points, set nine program records, and earned All-Big Ten and All-American honors. He became the first Nittany Lion to join Canada’s World Championship roster following Penn State’s NCAA Tournament appearance.

Let’s face it: while the rest of us were scrambling for playoff tickets, McKenna was busy rewriting Penn State’s record books like a caffeinated scribe. Now he’s ditching the Lions for maple syrup country, aiming to prove that ice hockey and colonial anthems go hand in hand. Of course, his teammates might miss him—unless they’re secretly relieved to have more pucks rolling their way back home.

Lions Leap Past Buckeyes in 2027 Class

Jamir Dean, a 3-star receiver from Tennessee, became Penn State’s 14th commit in the 2027 class, boosting the Nittany Lions past Ohio State in the national 247Sports rankings. Dean, a three-sport athlete and top-50 national receiver, chose Penn State over several Big Ten programs. His commitment moved the class to No. 4 nationally and second in the conference, marking a dramatic turnaround from an unranked start to spring practice.

Who knew a single wide receiver could send Penn State’s recruiting fortunes soaring past the Buckeyes? Apparently, flipping the switch from “chaotic winter” to “recruiting nirvana” only requires landing one guy with track times and basketball averages. Now if only we could recruit better parking and faster Wi-Fi, Happy Valley might really be unstoppable.
