Oklahoma Offseason Report: Football, QB Offers & Softball

Oklahoma Offseason Report: Football, QB Offers & Softball - painting of Oklahoma Sooners football, softball venue

Sooners Court East Coast QB Sensation

Oklahoma extended its latest recruiting pitch to Bergen Catholic standout Trey Tagliaferri, a 6-1, 190-pound junior signal-caller from Oradell, NJ. Tagged as a 3-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals, Tagliaferri completed 62.1% of his passes for 2,215 yards, 29 TDs and just three interceptions in his sophomore season. He’s already toured major programs like Notre Dame, Penn State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Alabama and more. This marks the Sooners’ second 2028 QB offer after they first pursued Graham Simpson, adding depth to a 2028 class already ranked among the nation’s best.

Clearly, Oklahoma’s coaching staff believes they can manufacture the next Heisman in a lab somewhere between Norman and the Jersey Shore. By dangling campus tours like roadside billboards and tracking Tagliaferri’s touchdown-to-interception spiral with more scrutiny than an Apple product launch, the Sooners have turned QB recruiting into a contact-sport highlight reel. Expect press conferences where recruiters slip recruiting offers under teammates’ pillows like tooth-fairy checks and alan-alda-style pep talks about “embracing the orange.”

Double Offer Drama: Brady Quinn Lights Up Norman

Oklahoma surprised fans by issuing a second 2028 quarterback offer in one day, this time to 6-1, 195-pound Brady Quinn from Hollywood, FL. Quinn boasts junior-year numbers of 2,960 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions after transferring twice. He’s taken unofficial visits to Clemson, Indiana, Notre Dame, Purdue, SMU, Miami, Alabama, Florida and Kentucky, plus gameday trips to Syracuse, Indiana, LSU, Miami and Florida. Quinn follows Trey Tagliaferri as the Sooners’ second foray into the 2028 class QB market.

It seems the Sooners have blown past the notion of “quality over quantity” and are now operating a two-for-one quarterback buffet. With each offer comes a recruitment-themed circus: helicopter campus tours, recruiters in full protective gear handing out playbooks, and NIL deals that involve free gourmet Taquitos for life. Somewhere, a high school QB is scrolling through his phone thinking, “Do I cross the country again, or just go pro as an Instagram model?”

High Stakes at the SEC Softball Showdown

Oklahoma arrives in Lexington as the No. 6 RPI seed but No. 1 in the NFCA/GoRout coaches’ poll, D1Softball rankings and Softball America poll. The top-seeded Sooners open against LSU or Georgia and are in contention for the tournament crown, which could cement their claim as the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Alabama and Texas loom as primary rivals, while Florida, Arkansas and Nebraska also chase top spots. A strong SEC run could not only deliver hardware but also prep OU for another Women’s College World Series berth.

If there’s anything that can turn a softball tournament into an epic dystopian saga, it’s the SEC bracket. Picture leather-glove gladiators hurling homers like Molotov cocktails, coaches issuing motivational speeches through bullhorns taped to batting helmets, and the winner walking away with the coveted golden bubble wrap trophy. Meanwhile, Patty Gasso’s secret plan to hypnotize opposing pitchers with her team’s .806 slugging percentage is well underway.

Sooners Hold Firm at No. 1 Despite A&M Scare

After splitting a series at Texas A&M, Oklahoma retained all 18 first-place votes needed to lead the NFCA/GoRout coaches’ poll, D1Softball and Softball America rankings. The Sooners stand 48-7 (20-4 SEC), eyeing the SEC Tournament in Lexington as a launchpad for the NCAA’s No. 1 overall seed—status they haven’t claimed since 2023. Freshman Kendall Wells is one homer shy of the NCAA single-season record, and the team’s .806 slugging percentage shatters past benchmarks.

With all the grace of a championship-hungry honey badger, Oklahoma refuses to let a pesky Aggie series steal its thunder. Fans are digging out their lucky grass-stained jerseys, while Gasso’s squad silently vows revenge on every swing. Somewhere in Norman, someone is already designing a T-shirt that reads: “We Kept the Pollsters Awake at Night (And We Hit Homers at Them).”

Red River Rivalry Spring Dispatch

Following March/April workouts, Texas and Oklahoma are poised for a pivotal Red River Showdown. Texas tackled spring with Arch Manning recovering from foot surgery and Emmett Mosley rehabbing an ankle, both on track for summer. Steve Sarkisian met with Sean McVay to bolster short-yardage schemes, while Texas boasts a deep receiver corps in Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo and Raleek Brown. Oklahoma counters under Brent Venables with a robust schedule and championship ambitions. Both programs head into 2026 hungry and healthy.

Behold the gladiatorial face-off where burnt orange meets crimson, coaches swap injury updates like collectible trading cards, and reporters ask pressing questions such as “Will the horns shine brighter than the OU numbers on those helmets?” Arch Manning’s foot is treated like a royal artifact, and Sarkisian supposedly invited Sean McVay over for barbeque and X’s & O’s—because obviously, spring ball is never complete without celebrity appearances and secret sauce.
