Elite 2027 RB Andrew Beard Ditches Clemson for Florida
Andrew Beard, a four-star, 5-foot-10 running back and the No. 154 overall prospect in the 2027 class, has committed to the Florida Gators, spurning Clemson as well as Georgia and Tennessee. Beard becomes the fifth high-profile Clemson target to flip to Florida this cycle, joining three offensive linemen and a tight end. His decision was influenced by existing connections to Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and running backs coach Chris Foster, plus a strong rapport with head coach Jon Sumrall. Over his last two seasons, Beard amassed more than 4,200 scrimmage yards and 44 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Clemson still chases another top-10 back, Gary Walker, who plans official visits including a return to Clemson.
It appears Clemson’s recruiting pitch consists of “We also have clemson in our name,” which somehow isn’t as persuasive as “Hey, want to play in the SEC?” Florida’s been polishing their crystal ball and Clemson’s been polishing…well, empty recruiting calendars. Beard clearly preferred friends in the coaching staff over orange pants and vague promises of “tradition.” Fortunately for Clemson fans, there’s always next year—unless Florida decides to poach the next five prospects too. At this rate, Clemson might just start recruiting aspirational mascots to fill their roster.
