Buckeye Blitz: Ohio State’s High-Stakes 2027 Recruiting Chase

Ohio State currently ranks between fifth and ninth nationally in early 2027 recruiting standings and remains focused on closing with several top-tier, uncommitted prospects. Five-star cornerback John Meredith III of Fort Worth, Texas, visits on June 19, bringing offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama and Texas. In-state targets include Massillon Washington linebacker Brayton Feister and versatile teammate Deontay Malone, both carrying Ohio high school football legacies. On the offensive front, Cincinnati Moeller’s Kalel Johnson and Columbus St. Francis DeSales tight end Jordan Karhoff are also in the Buckeyes’ sights. With summer visits impending, Ohio State’s ability to outmaneuver SEC heavyweights and leverage its NFL-development reputation will define its 2027 class.

In a move that surely has Ryan Day sleeping with recruiting brochures under his pillow, Ohio State is so deep in the hunt for 2027 prospects you’d think they’re hosting a clearance sale. “Buy One, Get Two Visits Free!” seems to be the summer slogan as John Meredith III and company get their red-carpet tours. Meanwhile, local heroes like Feister and Malone are probably fielding more interrogations than a prime-time true-crime doc. OSU’s tactic of dangling NFL promise like a carrot on a stick has become an art form—some might say performance art. At this rate, the Buckeyes might just corner the market on teenage charisma and future Heisman odds.
