Vols’ Linebacker Jewel Flips to Alabama

Tennessee’s recruiting cycle suffered a blow when Brentwood Academy standout Kenneth Simon—son of former Vols linebacker Kevin Simon—opted to pledge allegiance to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Rated as one of the nation’s premier 2027 linebackers, Simon brings modern 3-4 versatility, downhill burst, gap-closing prowess and dangerous blitz chops to Tuscaloosa. Despite a championship pedigree and the familial legacy in Knoxville, Alabama outmaneuvered Tennessee’s late push. While the Vols still boast emerging talent at linebacker and have history flipping prospects the other way, missing on Simon stings, especially given his proximity and potential to anchor Tennessee’s defense for years.

In a twist worthy of a reality TV reunion special, the Vols recruited the son of a former Vol—only to watch him run straight into Nick Saban’s arms. It’s almost as if tradition, familial loyalty and in-state proximity mean nothing when Alabama’s recruiters roll out the crimson carpet. The injury here isn’t physical; it’s a bruised ego for Tennessee fans who will now have to explain to their neighbors why the apple fell miles away from Rocky Top. At least this time the Vols can console themselves by flipping someone else’s target… ideally before ‘Commitment Day’ becomes ‘Abandonment Day’ in Knoxville.
