Four-Star Prospect Slaps Clemson Off His Top Five

Elite defensive back Davion Jones, a four-star recruit ranked No. 153 nationally and the seventh-best player in North Carolina, has cut Clemson from his final five schools. Jones’s finalists are Indiana, Georgia, LSU, Auburn and South Carolina, with official visits planned. After a year of mutual interest—including an unofficial visit in March, a standout camp performance earning him an offer, and a return for the season opener—Jones chose to advance toward the Bulldogs rather than the Tigers. His decision leaves Clemson redirecting efforts toward other top safeties: Ta’Shawn Poole, Chance Gilbert, Jarrell Chandler and Seth Williams, all of whom hold various levels of interest and upcoming official visits. With one commit already on board, Clemson’s safety board is far from full, but landing another blue-chip talent remains crucial.

In a stunning display of gridiron ghosting, Clemson finds itself left on “read” by the defensive star it wooed virtually since birth. The Tigers, fresh off their worst record since the Jurassic era, apparently can’t even secure a camp cameo into a prospect’s top tier. Rumor has it Coach Swinney considered staging a formal funeral for Clemson’s recruiting hopes, complete with tiny funeral helmets for each missed target. But fear not, Tigers fans: there’s still hope in the form of other safeties. Because when life hands you rejection letters, just shift your focus to the next kid who might not ghost you—preferably one who’s never heard of auburn-colored uniforms.
