Surreal JUCO DE Tour Fuels LSU’s Football Dreams

The LSU Tigers football program, under new head coach Lane Kiffin, hosted junior college standout defensive end Ean Rhea for a weekend visit. Rhea, coming off three seasons at Emory & Henry University with 12 sacks, 18 tackles, and three forced fumbles last year, stands at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds. His visit ended with an offer, but Rhea hasn’t set a commitment date, weighing LSU against Vanderbilt, New Mexico, and Illinois. LSU aims to bolster its defensive front with his talents as the Tigers seek to restore national championship aspirations under Kiffin’s first-year regime.

Nothing screams “fresh start” like a defensive end whose biggest school was Emory & Henry—because nothing says SEC dominance like pulling talent from the academic powerhouse that is, well, almost anyone else. Thankfully, Lane Kiffin’s charisma—and perhaps his uncanny ability to throw a football 60 yards himself—will convince Rhea that tackling Big Ten quarterbacks is easier than beating his old JUCO coach in Connect Four. If not, LSU can always draft a promising middle school phenom next spring.

Will Wade Assembles a Coaching Avengers Squad at LSU

Back in Baton Rouge once more, head coach Will Wade has recruited an all-star auxiliary staff. He brought in three former Division I head coaches—Rick Stansbury, Johnny Jones, and Damon Stoudamire—to serve as his top lieutenants. Stansbury, the SEC veteran and winningest coach in Mississippi State history, joins as associate head coach. Johnny Jones returns to his alma mater with deep Louisiana recruiting ties, and NBA alum Damon Stoudamire offers pro-level player development expertise. Supporting them are Vernon Hamilton and Greg Goldin, longtime Wade confidants responsible for continuity and conditioning. Together, they aim to build Wade’s next roster via the transfer portal and high school recruiting.

It’s comforting to know that LSU basketball is so desperate for a reboot it hired every conceivable coaching consultant—veteran, alumni, NBA ring chaser—because nothing says “we trust our head coach” like surrounding him with a gallery of the semi-retired. But hey, if one of these sages accidentally recruits a one-and-done five-star, it’ll all be worth it. Meanwhile, the real gamble is whether this Scooby-Doo coach reunion can unmask the villain known as mediocrity.

Baseball’s Do-Or-Die Weekend in Hoover

LSU’s baseball season teeters on the brink as the SEC Tournament begins in Hoover, AL. After a disappointing 9-21 conference record and a No. 14 seed, the Tigers must upset No. 11 Oklahoma and then No. 6 Auburn to keep their postseason streak alive. Fifteen straight years without missing NCAA regionals hang in the balance. A deep run would secure a postseason berth; an early exit would shatter expectations set by last year’s national championship and sting recruiting momentum under coach Jay Johnson.

LSU baseball’s current strategy appears to be “pray louder,” since replacing last year’s draft picks with next year’s draft prospects hasn’t exactly produced a masterpiece. Sure, they wield MLB-ready bats, but apparently not enough to conquer a bracket full of SEC juggernauts. If they stumble, expect Baton Rouge fans in Omaha to be outnumbered by corn dogs and overpriced beer salesmen.
