Alabama Strikes Gold: First 2027 Hoops Commit
Alabama basketball secured guard Anderson Diaz’s commitment for the 2027 class, a 6-foot-1 playmaker from Overtime Elite. Ranked as the No. 29 prospect nationally and top in Georgia, Diaz averaged 17.2 points, 7.0 assists, and 4.9 rebounds in 16 games this season. His standout 36-point performance came in a 96-78 loss. Diaz starred at Lawrence Woodmere Academy and represented the Dominican Republic at the U18 AmeriCup as a 16-year-old. This summer he’s thriving on the EYBL circuit, posting 20.6 points per game. He chose Alabama over a slew of Power Five offers—and could reclassify to 2026—joining Nate Oats’s roster.
Congratulations to Coach Oats, who in true Tide fashion just couldn’t resist adding another point guard to his collection. Anderson Diaz, we salute your ability to average double-digits in assists—because heaven knows Alabama needs someone to dish the ball to all the fresh-faced transfers. Will he reclassify to 2026? Only if he figures out how to bend the space-time continuum after a night out in Tuscaloosa. Here’s hoping Nate Oats has enough clipboard space to manage all these one-and-done prospects and reclassifying phenoms. Stay tuned for next year’s riveting saga: “Recruiting, Reclassifying, and Rosters: The Musical.”
Crimson Tide vs. Bayou Bash: Super Regional Showdown
Alabama softball (52-7) hosts LSU (40-17) this weekend in a best-of-three Tuscaloosa Super Regional for a ticket to the Women’s College World Series. Game 1 airs Friday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2; Game 2 Saturday at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN; Game 3 TBD. Tuscaloosa forecasts stormy weather. Alabama swept its regional 9-0 win over USC Upstate; LSU topped Virginia Tech 7-2. Series history favors LSU 49-44. Key players include Alabama’s Brooke Wells (.398 AVG, 23 HR) and Jocelyn Briski (1.38 ERA, 22 wins), plus LSU’s Kylee Edwards (.349 AVG) and Jayden Heavener (120 Ks).
Don’t forget your rain boots, umbrellas, and prayer candles—this Super Regional promises enough drama to rival a soap opera set in a washing machine. Will the Crimson Tide wash away LSU in a downpour of homers? Or will the Tigers claw back through mud-splattered heroics? Tune in to ESPN2 and witness broadcasters narrating every thunderclap like it’s the crack of the bat. And hey, if the weather gets too wild, maybe they’ll just livestream from a submarine under Lake Tuscaloosa. Grab your ponchos, folks; it’s going to be a wet and wild ride to Oklahoma City.
Vegas Bound: Alabama’s Journey in Players Era Bracket
Alabama men’s basketball will compete in the third annual Players Era Championship in Las Vegas this November. The Crimson Tide opens against Baylor on Nov. 24; winners face Gonzaga or Kansas State on Nov. 26, while losers drop into consolation. A potential path leads through Michigan, Creighton, Miami, and TCU before a Nov. 28 title game versus the Bracket 1 winner (Tennessee, Maryland, Iowa State, San Diego State, St. John’s, Oregon, Louisville, Texas Tech). ESPN will broadcast all matchups from T-Mobile Arena and Michelob Ultra Arena.
Travel to Vegas, they said. It’ll be fun, they said—just don’t bet your car on the first game. As Alabama fans polish their neon signs and slot-machine rituals, Coach Nate Oats is busy teaching the team how to fold chips in their pockets for good luck. Who needs a consolation bracket when you can console yourself with tournament merchandise that costs more than your dinner? And let’s be honest, nothing says Thanksgiving week like watching college hoops under the neon glare, with a side of desert dust and questionable refereeing. Buckle up, Crimson Tide: Vegas odds have never been more… entertaining.
