Hoosiers Make Bold Pitch to 2027 Sharpshooter
Indiana men’s basketball has quietly but urgently entered the recruitment of Chase Lumpkin, a four-star 2027 combo guard from McEachern High School in Georgia. Ranked No. 56 nationally and No. 5 among shooting guards by 247Sports, Lumpkin boasts NBA-range shooting, a bag of pull-up dribble moves, and a knack for midrange step-backs and side-steps. He also handles playmaking duties, threading clever drive-and-kick passes and capitalizing on deflections to run the open floor. While his finishing is often below the rim, he displays a versatile layup package and can finish with either hand. On defense, his length creates turnovers, and he’s comfortable switching pick-and-rolls. At Indiana, Lumpkin could slide in as a reserve point guard or a starting two-guard, offering modern scoring punch and secondary playmaking.
Indiana’s coaching staff must have decided that if you can’t beat Kentucky, you might as well start drafting your roster now—three years early. Word is they’ve been bribing Lumpkin with free Hoosier t-shirts, unlimited cheese curds, and lifetime passes to Assembly Hall hotdogs. Rumor even has it that Darian DeVries showed up at Lumpkin’s doorstep in full mascot costume, serenading him with “Back Home Again in Indiana.” And while other programs dangle gleaming facilities and Nike swag, the Hoosiers are baiting future talent with retro VHS tapes of every John Stockton highlight. It’s either genius or the most desperate PR stunt since they tried recruiting abacus clubs for analytics support. Either way, Lumpkin must be flattered that a team is stalking him this early—Indiana’s head start could either make him a legend or have him laughing about it at his college alumni club in 2030.
