Badger-to-Devil Pivot: Blackwell’s Grand Return

Former Wisconsin standout John Blackwell has announced he will withdraw from the NBA Draft and transfer to Duke for his senior season. After testing the pro waters for two offseasons—coming off a sophomore year averaging 15.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists—Blackwell declared he’d return to school unless he received an NBA evaluation he liked. He then exploded as a junior at Wisconsin, averaging 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and hitting 39% of his threes, drawing interest from top programs. Ultimately, the 6-4 guard confirmed his plan: stay in school, run the point, and suit up for the Blue Devils.

Duke fans, rejoice! They’ve snatched another self-aware wizard who realized he’s not quite NBA-ready but still wants to flex on freshmen with a head full of skills. Meanwhile, Badger faithful everywhere are flooding the internet with microscopic tear samples—hey, they knew this day was coming when “national spotlight” became “we saw you on ESPN.” And now Blackwell gets to start fresh in Durham, where the real test is not NBA scouts but acing a statistics final in Coach K’s whirling vortex of advanced analytics. Go figure.
