Henri Veesaar Jumps Ship for the NBA
Former Arizona reserve-turned-UNC star Henri Veesaar will forgo his remaining eligibility instead of returning to Chapel Hill. After three developmental seasons at Arizona, he transferred to North Carolina and exploded onto the scene, averaging 17.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while shooting efficiently from inside and beyond the arc. Despite question marks on defense, his size and shooting range have NBA scouts drooling. A coaching shake-up—in which the Tar Heels parted ways with Hubert Davis and brought in NBA champ Michael Malone—failed to lure Veesaar back. Confident in his improved draft stock, he’s officially kept his name in the 2026 NBA Draft. Many analysts, including CBS Sports’ Cameron Salerno, project him as a late first-round pick based on his rare combination of size and 3-point touch.
In true Tar Heel fashion, Veesaar’s departure only proves that Chapel Hill is less of a college campus and more of a launching pad for seven-foot jump shooters with existential dread about extra semesters. The only thing more surprising than Veesaar opting for the draft is the fact that we’re allowed to root for an athlete to succeed in something rather than complain about his GPA. Still, you can almost hear the collective sigh of relief from ACC fans who’d grown tired of corner threes from their giants. Now UNC can focus on finding someone else who can shoot like a sniper but defend like they’ve misplaced their manuals.
