Dawgs Scorch Sharks in Regional Ball Blitz

The University of Georgia Bulldogs wasted no time turning the Regionals opener into an offensive showcase, dismantling the Long Island University Sharks 18-2. Georgia struck early with a three-run third inning sparked by a bunt error and a two-run homer, then added two more in the fourth. The fifth saw a five-run eruption highlighted by three homers from Ryan Black, Daniel Jackson, and Brennan Hudson. After a rain delay, the Dawgs picked up where they left off—Rylan Lujo, Hudson and Ryan Wynn peppered the park with towering shots, while Georgia’s bullpen preserved the rout. Despite a late run by LIU on a bases-loaded walk in the ninth, the Bulldogs’ 46-12 regular season form carried through, capping off a 23-7 SEC title run with a statement win in Hoover.

In a stunning display of baseball mastery, Georgia turned the Sharks into little more than an afternoon snack—feeding them to the hounds while the Dawgs chased each other around the bases in gleeful circles. Joey Volchko looked so unhittable that LIU batters reportedly asked for autographs after striking out. The only suspense came when the rain delay briefly paused the carnage, prompting fans to wonder if the Sharks might find cover or at least a dry sponge. Spoiler: they didn’t. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs’ bench warmed up in existential horror at the prospect of using too few players in an 18-run blowout. Truly, a masterclass in “why even bother showing up” for underdog squads everywhere.
