Blue Devils Snag Speed Demon to Turbocharge 2027 Roster

Junior coach Manny Diaz and his Duke staff celebrated their 13th 2027 commitment when Troup County High’s 5’10”, 190-lb running back Javarris Warner, a former Cincinnati pledge, flipped to Durham. The three-star prospect boasted a 4.0 GPA and cited Duke’s blend of gridiron success—fresh off an ACC title and Sun Bowl win—and academic prestige as the deciding factors. Ranked No. 49 among RBs by ESPN and No. 798 overall by Rivals, Warner joins a recruiting class now ranked 34th nationally, featuring tight ends Parker Newman and Luke Karby, linemen Tyler Graham and Skyler Smith, defensive backs DJ Waluyn and Alex Patton, plus eight more three-stars aiming to help Duke sustain its rise.

Look at Duke, turning the recruiting game into an Ivy League sleepover—everyone’s too polite to mention that a 4.0 GPA and flashy pads are mutually exclusive. But here’s Warner, signing on the dotted line so he can chase ACC glory by day and chew on Latin verbs by night—because apparently “The…” is just as important as “TD!” NCAA rulebooks really need a chapter on how to balance lab reports with touchdown celebrations. Meanwhile, Coach Diaz must be celebrating somewhere between the chemistry lab and the weight room, probably telling recruits, “Bring your textbooks and your shoulder pads—Duke’s creating scholar-athletes who’ll run circles around you on the field and off!”
