Gamecock Heartbreak: Seminoles Steal LB Albright
Florida State surprised everyone by luring four-star linebacker Jernard Albright away from South Carolina, flipping his commitment after a spring of recruiting woes left the Seminoles near the bottom of the ACC. Albright, originally set to visit later, sped up his trip to Tallahassee and fell under the spell of new linebackers coach Ernie Sims—FSU’s first big get under his watch. Once a defensive back prospect, the Georgia native embraced the switch to linebacker and will join fellow four-star Gregory Batson in the 2027 class, which has climbed from No. 55 to No. 51 nationally. Albright’s junior-year resume boasts 50 tackles, a sack, forced fumble, three pass deflections, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and three rushing TDs. He’ll finish his high school career at St. Frances Academy before bolstering Florida State’s rejuvenated defense next fall.
In a stunning display of collegiate superheroism, Florida State swooped in like a caped crusader to rescue Albright from an unsuspecting South Carolina. One can only imagine the tears of Gamecock fans as their prized recruit was unceremoniously yanked away—perhaps they even handed out tiny tissues at the press conference. Meanwhile, FSU’s staff must be popping confetti and high-fiving corkboards that now feature the smiling face of a new linebacker. All hail the Seminoles, masters of flipping fortunes and shattering Gamecock dreams with the finesse of a linebacker blitz on fourth-and-long.
