Mercer Marvel: Kersey’s Two-Way Explosion Heads to Knoxville

Tennessee baseball has snagged Mercer’s standout two-way talent, Braydon Kersey. In his last season with the Bears, Kersey smacked 21 home runs at a .325 average and posted a 4.95 ERA with 26 strikeouts over 20 innings. A finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award, he’ll split time between the mound and the infield—likely first, second or third base—and could even slot in as a designated hitter to bolster the Vols’ lineup.

Knoxville fans, rejoice: Tennessee’s baseball program just found its Swiss Army knife. Who wouldn’t want a slugger who can also pitch? It’s like discovering your toaster also makes coffee. The Vols clearly decided that one position in the field is too limiting—why hire a plumber when you can get a plumber-electrician-carpenter? Expect Kersey to save the day in more ways than one, and maybe even mow the outfield grass between at-bats.

JUCO Juggernaut: Mays Pledges to Fortify Vols’ Defensive Line

Christian Mays, a three-star JUCO defensive lineman from Northeast Mississippi Community College, has committed to Tennessee football. Despite under-the-radar status, Mays fended off interest from Arkansas and Mississippi State to join Josh Heupel’s 2027 recruiting class. He’ll be the Vols’ 11th commit in that cycle and could pave the way for future in-state target David Gabriel-Georges to follow suit.

Tennessee’s defensive front just hit the recruiting jackpot—if your idea of a jackpot is finding loose change in the couch. Mays may have flown under the radar, but he’s now the karaoke star of Knoxville’s defensive line. The plan seems to be: stack so many JUCO projects that opposing quarterbacks get whiplash. And while they wait for the bigger fish—like Canadian RB David Gabriel-Georges—to bite, Mays can at least hold down the fort so the Vols can perfect their new “surprise Mays” defensive package.
