Which USC Sluggers Are Headed for the Big Leagues?

USC’s baseball program wrapped its 2026 season in early June after a narrow 4–3 loss to North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Despite falling short, the Trojans notched a 40-win season and back-to-back 30+ win years, signaling a program on the rise. Now attention turns to this July’s MLB Draft, with 15 eligible Trojans but three standing out. Left-handed ace Mason Edwards boasts All-Big Ten honors, NCAA-leading strikeouts, a sub-4.00 ERA, and a 15-2 record—earning top-30 draft buzz. Senior outfielder Jack Basseer, after stops at Pepperdine and TCU, delivered a .364/.451/.513 slash line with 10 homers and first-team All-Big Ten honors. Versatile junior Kevin Takeuchi impressed since freshman year, slashing .314 with 10 homers, making him a reliable dual-position threat. As MLB scouts circle, these Trojans could be suiting up in pro ball by summer’s end.

Here come the baseball scouts, wearing sunglasses indoors and nodding sagely at buttery hot dogs. USC’s diamond gladiators have pitched, slugged, and scampered around bases so well that major-league execs are already penciling them into color-rush uniforms. Mason Edwards might arrive in pinstripes before finishing his laundry, while Jack Basseer could demand a private batting cage and collection of commemorative bobbleheads. Kevin Takeuchi? He’ll be so polished they’ll sell his rookie card before spring training opens. It’s a Trojan exodus to the pros—because nothing says “we’re rebuilding” like a wholesale graduation day on draft board night.

Trojan Heisman Dynasty Woos Top D-Lineman

Henry E. Lackey (Md.) five-star defensive lineman Tyzon Swann, ranked No. 5 overall and No. 1 at his position, embarked on his first California visit to USC June 10–12. Swann, cousin of 2022 Heisman winner Caleb Williams, hopes to join the Trojans’ recent streak of elite defensive recruits. During his tour he’ll meet coaches and prospects like Jahkeem Stewart and Luke Wafle before attending USC’s prospect camp. Swann also boasts a 135-tackle high school season and 40+ college offers, leaning on Williams’ guidance through the recruiting maze. After summer stops at Alabama, LSU, and future visits to Big Ten powerhouses, Swann’s fall trip to the Coliseum could seal his Trojan future.

Swann’s rolling into L.A. with more hype than a Hollywood red carpet—minus the paparazzi but plus all the college coaches armed with PowerPoints. Expect Lincoln Riley to serenade him with highlight reels while a hologram of Caleb Williams whispers, “Join us, cousin… we have trophies.” Meanwhile, Swann’s landlords back home are clocking his phone for secret Snapchat glimpses of Trojan uniforms, and his old high school coach is already drafting a teary press release. It’s recruiting theater at its finest—complete with cousin cameos, Madden covers, and the sweet, sweet promise of free lunch at every campus cafeteria.
