FSU Recruiting Rollercoaster: DB Decommits and EDGE Joins

FSU Recruiting Rollercoaster: DB Decommits and EDGE Joins - painting of Florida State Seminoles football venue

DB Decommits from FSU, Flirting with SEC Charm

Over the past two weeks, Florida State’s #Tribe27 recruiting class has seen a swirl of activity—including the unexpected departure of three-star athlete DaYon Cooper. After pledging to the Seminoles on April 1 and turning down offers from Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Louisville, and Wake Forest, Cooper took an official visit to Tennessee and promptly decommitted. He cited the Volunteers’ plan to use him as a wide receiver—rather than the cornerback spot projected by FSU—as the deciding factor. Cooper’s junior campaign was stellar: he racked up 1,252 yards, 17 touchdowns, and a state title for South Pittsburgh High School, earning Tennessee Titans Class 1A Mr. Football honors. In the wake of his exit, Jemari Foreman remains the lone defensive back in the 2027 class, which now stands at nine verbal commitments.

In typical Seminole fashion, the coaching staff is now left scrambling like a fraternity house missing its kegs—except the kegs are blue-chip talent and the house is a top-50 recruiting class. One can only imagine the recruiters sharpening their pitch decks: “Play cornerback! It’s just like wide receiver, minus the touchdowns!” Meanwhile, Tennessee fans are popping champagne over landing the recruit who probably just wanted a better Instagram feed. FSU might consider renaming their DB room “The Great Escape”—because apparently, nobody wants to stay.

Jaxon Holly Snaps Up Seminoles, Leaves VT and Auburn Frosty

Three-star defensive end Jaxon Holly wrapped up his official visit to Florida State and committed to the Seminoles over offers from Virginia Tech and Auburn. Standing 6-foot-3.5 and weighing 225 pounds, Holly recorded 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, and two pass deflections during his junior season at Roswell High School. Ranked No. 627 overall and No. 53 among EDGE prospects for the 2027 class, Holly becomes the latest addition to FSU’s defensive front, joining four-star DE Anthony Cavallaro and three-star lineman Eric Vaulx Jr. With Holly’s pledge, Florida State now boasts ten commitments in #Tribe27, slotting the class at No. 53 nationally.

Behold, the Seminoles’ newest edge rusher, Jaxon Holly—because when your defensive line looks like a buffet, you need someone to pick up the slack. Coaches likely trailed him around campus offering fruit snacks and free parking spots just to get that signature on the dotted line. Now that the pledge is in, expect head coach Mike Norvell to personally bake him a “Welcome to the Swamp” cake—complete with Seminole spear frosting. Rumor has it Holly chose FSU because he was told the mascot charges head-on into problems, just like an edge rusher. Talk about commitment!
